Be my intern!

I am looking for an editorial intern to help me continue building my list at Skyhorse Publishing. I currently work on Cooking/Lifestyle books in the following subcategories: cooking, crafting, nature, diet/nutrition, pets, interior design, gardening, art, and humor. I also occasionally acquire and edit adult fiction titles, memoirs, and young adult fiction. As my intern, you will be exposed to a variety of books, both fiction and nonfiction.

I am looking for someone to contribute at least ten to fifteen hours a week to this internship, though we could discuss this and make adjustments if necessary. Maximum internship length is six months.

What will you be doing?

  • Reviewing submissions/proposals
  • Writing reader’s reports and rejections
  • Writing catalog and back cover copy
  • Assisting with metadata
  • Checking corrections between passes
  • Researching photos, contributors, blurbers/endorsers
  • Updating/revising content for new editions
  • Potentially content/line editing and proofreading, depending on skill set
  • And more!

Who should apply?

This internship is open to both students and college graduates with an eye for detail and a love of books. You don’t need to be a recent graduate, nor do you need experience in publishing to apply, though you should enjoy reading, writing, and editing. It also helps if you're already curious about the publishing industry/process.

This is not a paid position. If you are a college student who would like to use your hours for credits, I will happily help you do so.

This is a remote position, which means you won’t be making coffee, running errands, or packing envelopes all day long! Come to work in your pajamas if you really want to. All I ask is that you have a stable internet connection and a working phone in case I need you in a pinch. You can set your own schedule.

How should you apply?

Please send me your résumé and a note (or cover letter, if you want to get formal about it) about why you’re interested in publishing, specifically within the editorial department, and why an internship at Skyhorse is right for you.

For more information about me, please feel free to click around my site. If you have questions before you apply, please send them my way, as well.

I will be taking applications until Monday, October 5. You can email me at nfrail [at] skyhorsepublishing [dot] com.
